Tenants will likely feel more connection to the apartment community if they feel management is supportive of their personal situation and helping them to find solutions. In the long run, retention of a tenant without a rent increase may be more profitable than turnover costs and vacancy for an unknown period.

Furthermore, if the recession persists, then home ownership is expected to decline. Economic hardship means a smaller percentage of the population will be able to attain the financial requirements for owning a home. The demand for multifamily remains strong for the foreseeable future.
